Everyone has been saying it, everyone is expecting it - 2009 will be a year of change. Some changes will be momentous, others trivial, but change there will be. A lot of people are upset, depressed, even ill, in anticipation of some dire event that may (or may not) befall them, while in fact nothing bad has happened to them.

If this is true for you, then choose to change your attitude from one of expectant disaster to daily gratitude for all the wonderful things that make up your life. And perhaps decide to help someone less fortunate than yourself. When change occurs on a grand scale, solidarity is what helps people through, the knowledge that we are not alone, that we can help each other in many ways. Sometimes an encouraging smile is enough. So stay open, optimistic, generous and grateful!

The major change for Fleurs de Vie is the transformation of our quarterly newsletter from a printed to an electronic publication. This is the last time that you will receive a printed newsletter through the mail. Those of you for whom we have an e-mail address will already be reading this newsletter on-line. From summer 2009 onwards, the newsletter will only be disseminated electronically. Communications with our therapists network will also be by e-mail.

This is both an environmentally and financially sound decision. However, it was not an easy one to make. We have been sending out our newsletter four times a year for the last nine years. It is our principal means of communicating with you and this communication is very important to us. So while we will continue writing the newsletter, we sincerely hope that you will sign up for our mailing list to ensure that you continue to receive it.

Looking back, I see that, without realizing it, we were in fact preparing for this all last year as we began a policy of making as many documents as possible available to you free of charge as downloadable PDF files. You now have free access to all of our newsletters dating back to Spring 2000, our catalogue and our booklet on choosing essences for children as well as other documents. Recently we also included a testing chart that lists all of the 900 essences sold by Fleurs de Vie. The download section is available here.

(back to top) Balancing the Five Elements Perhaps the easiest way to see the cosmology of Chinese medicine in the human being is through the metaphor of the five elements which contain all of the twelve meridians and function together to create and to control each other. These 5 Elements - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood - are the underlying energies from which everything in the physical universe manifests. We as humans need to achieve balance in all five elements in order to obtain maximum health and well-being. This means eliminating the imbalances caused by both excess and deficient energy flows in the meridians that define each element. In acupuncture there is a source point on each meridian that can balance and harmonise the energy of that channel.
